Recycling Real Christmas Trees

There’s probably not many needles left on your real Christmas tree after 3 weeks in a warm house – these can generally be cut up and recycled as 'green' waste (check how thick branches can be in your collection) or taken to a special collection point at certain times after Christmas that your council may provide.

Recycling Artificial Christmas Trees

Although sometimes sold as a eco-friendly alternative, you have to use a 'fake' tree for ten years or more to create a carbon saving over having a real one each year. From a recycling point of view artificial plastic and foil style Christmas trees are unfortunately not very recyclable - and 'pre-lit' or fibre optic trees must be treated at WEEE and disposed of accordingly.
